Reinforced concrete modeling is now done on BIM-approved software, such as Revit, thanks to the introduction of BIM. AutoCAD was used to create a conceptual representation of the real rebar. The drawings & sketches were then refined and distributed to the draftsmen. The design was completed using Excel spreadsheets which resulted in the required reinforcement area. “It has long been a problem in the building business because many designs “ check the box” for characteristics but are not always realistic as a built structure.” And, all too often, no checks are performed on feasibility before construction begins, resulting in changes and increased costs for a project.”īefore the introduction of BIM, structural engineers would develop an analytical model in STAAD (Structural Analysis and Design Software) for concrete rebar reinforcement. All too often in construction, complicated projects are delayed or cost overruns occur due to the difficulties of constructing the design.
